    Very true David! Thanks!

Cool, will play with that number. Still need to watch the money management vids so I don’t understand that tab at all. From my second pair in testing onwards I started collecting both tighter stops and original stops. The EURNZD and EURAUD both performed slightly better win rates and much less DD’s with tighter stops. I’ve just spent the arvo…[Read more]

Okay great info Fitzy, thanks for that. The filters are starting to complicate things and could cause a lot of errors I think in real time. Esp. in the early days as a trader. I’ll check out your method too. Yeah, MM doesn’t compare!! Boom!

So far I have been focusing on filtering each pair to reduce the drawdowns. 5 pairs in the mix at the moment, 2 (EURAUD and EURNZD) have stops 50% tighter than normal. AUDNZD, AUDUSD and EURGBP are the other 3 with normal stops. Target 1 1:1, move stops to break even when hit. T2 1:1.5. Killed the drawdowns with the filters but the ROI is not…[Read more]

    • Hi Ed. Looks like you have managed to get a really good win rate. Did you make the stops tighter on EURAUD and EURNZD because on their own they were showing poor returns? I suppose their performance improved after you made that change. I remember Prasant talking about how he has different rules for different pairs too. i can see in your…[Read more]

    • Hi Ed. I agree, that is a nice win rate and < that 10%DD. Don't forget, trading DC you can go down the beech. Good work!

Hi Fitzy, great work! I have been playing around with filters to reduce drawdowns. Managed that but my returns are nothing like yours! Analysis is taking way longer than ever expected. Did you apply many filters have you found trailing with the parabolic SAR makes up for the multiple losses? I feel I may have knocked out a lot of gains with my…[Read more]

    • Hi Ed. My approach is quite simple, in that I use the Daily Chore indicator for stops and target 1. When target 1 is hit, i move the stop to breakeven and then trail price action using the PSAR until a retracement takes me out. The PSAR does leave money on the table but every now and then, maybe once or twice a year per pair, the trailing stop…[Read more]

      • Hi Fitzy, when your target 1 is hit, do you take half of your position or a partial position as a profit and trail with the remaining position?

Hi Richard, I did EURUSD as my first test but haven\’t checked thoroughly. I missed a lot of trades so can\’t confirm! I\’ve been getting around 100-130 traders over 2010 to 2020.

Okay great, I\’ll play around with some combinations of pairs. Will keep posting my findings as I go.

Thanks David! Your words were well timed to boost me! This testing is as crushing as they say at times – just had a great pair, USDCAD, until the last 2 years. Took another look at the MACD and have added that to see how it works out on the current pair AUDNZD. Analysis for both to follow after the weekend since Traders 4 A Cause is running.

Cheers! I am just using fixed percentage. Max 2% risk per trade. I will try the smooth ratio. Have had issues with the spreadsheet running slow so made my own. Just done the USDCAD and working on trying to reduce the big drawdown 2019/20. It was doing so well till the last 2 years!! So frustrating! Did the same aggressive stops and compared them…[Read more]

I tried my aggressive stops for the EURAUD and they produced a better win rate than if the original stop had been placed. New Target 1 was set at 1:1 against the new aggressive stop. Still not a great ROI over a 10 year period. I managed to reduce the drawdown by applying Filter 1 – IF THE PRIOR CANDLE MOVE IS IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION TO THE…[Read more]

    • It looks like you’ve done quite a bit of work there Ed. Nice one! Are you using a fixed percentage on each trade in your spreadsheet? have you tried inputting your trade data into the Tier One Smooth ratio money management spreadsheet?

    • That is a great improvement Ed, nice work! You may not be ecstatic with your 10yr ROI but if you can get a few more pairs working, it will soon add up.

    • i agree with David. on their own my pairs were not great but then as i back tested more, i tried different combinations of pairs until i found 3 pairs out of the 11 i tested that worked quite well together. The smooth ratio money management spreadsheet allowed me to generate a decent equity slope on my back testing results. Keep us updated on your…[Read more]

I looked at the MACD but although it does follow those short term directional movements, its flaw is that it flattens out if the directional move continues at a similar rate so I did not use it.

Hi Fitzy, Nothing clear jumped out of the first go with the EMA’s. I’m going to take a closer look at the data and how I grouped the figures. There’s got to be some way of defining those nice gapped out areas the chore does well in.

I have another idea I have just collected data on. Being new it only just occurred to me to see the Daily Chore…[Read more]

Have back-tested the EURCAD from 2006-present. Despite applying filters it is a total bust from 2016. See screenshot of price chart -it shows the start of the demise. The chart in spreadsheet shows the equity curve (more mountain) in blue, and also the drawdown in red. It looks like the trades loose when the EMA’s run close to each other in those…[Read more]

    • Hi Ed, I like the sound of that. I was thinking of how i could define, in a spreadsheet, diverging EMAs in such a way that i could trade that way. Not just have the data as an historical exercise. I couldn’t figure it out. I’m interested to see how you go.
